Track Record

Kogan Creek Power Station, Queensland, Australia

Over the past five years, Skelton Sherborne’s Energy Logistics Division has been busy ensuring that the future supply of electricity will reach our energy users, by providing the international transport and logistics to many of the major Power Stations.

One such project was the Kogan Creek Power Station in Queensland. The logistics contract encompassed a wide range of the services that Skelton Sherborne offers. After being inspected by our own in-house Biosecurity Consultants, steel for the project was shipped from China by our freight consultants. On arrival at the Port of Brisbane it was cleared by Customs and then lifted by Skelton’s own cranes onto our own trucking fleet.

“It was such a specialised job because the steel used for the beams has a constitution that is only for the use in power plants,” said Brian Booth, Skelton Sherborne’s Manager of Energy Logistics. “Any damage or heavy impact on the beams would have caused the steel to fracture. The beam would then have to be remanufactured, causing major delays to the project. To ensure adequate protection, cargo sensitivity was at the forefront of planning for the structural beams, which measured up to 35metres in length.”

The entire project took 18 months worth of shipments to fulfil, and was completed on time and within budget by Skelton Sherborne. Even though the project is commissioned and fully operational, the company continues to provide solutions for all imported goods for the life of Kogan Creek.
